~
Well, I bowed to Vox-group-pressure and went back to Mom &
Pop Antiques and checked out those lights - they are $172 + tax - more
than I was hoping so they are still hanging in the shop window!
On the photo-a-day-project I am now less than a month between the shooting of photos and the posting of them!
201 - Storm gathering... along our alley
202
- We unintentionally killed the first free tree we were given by DC
Government, so were surprised when our application to adopt a second
tree was approved. That ugly brown thing is a water collar - we fill it
with water and it leaks out over 7-10 days. Recently someone stole our
collar.... even though they cost $50 to replace the dept agreed to
giving us a second one for free. They will be starting some sort of file on us
soon.....
203 - on my walk from metro to the office - another storm coming.
204
- Billboard on metro station: More than 3% of DC residents have HIV or AIDS -
that's scary and sad. According to the
District's HIV/AIDS
Administration - that figure is on par with rates in countries of West
Africa.
205
- This was my birthday day!! 23 July ..... one of the things I really miss are Smarties so my
mother sent these for my birthday. I opened and finished them on the
same day!
206 - the Princess gave me a sushi set for my birthday! Now I won't have to eat off the black plastic tray.... she gave me two so the manservant can have one too but his didn't make the photo....
207
& 207a - There's a theme of storm clouds running through this
set of photos. These were taken from my back deck as the sky got darker.
208 - summer dresses laid out and waiting for me to decide which to wear to work this day:
209
- new umbrella - bought on the way home because I'd gone off to work
on a day when no rain was predicted but came anyway .... the photo is obviously taken at
home because I would not stand barefoot in a store!
210 - Oh
no - a pop-up is emerging on the house across the street! Talk about
taking character away from a building. Since this (crooked) shot was taken there is more structure and it is covered in beige siding!!! What a horror - no attempt has been made to fit the style of the building.
Yeah, $172 is pretty steep. was that just for one or the pair? If it was for the pair that's not too bad but I don't know if I'd want the pair.
We did have quite a few days with ominous clouds. Ominous clouds and no rain.
At least you didn't have to pay for the tree you unintentionally killed. I bought 2 native plants in the spring and unintentionally killed the possumhaw viburnum which was $35. It's not dead yet. It's hard to tell. It keeps looking like it wants to sprout new leaves and then more of it turns brown and falls off. But there is still green on it so I will hold out some hope and try to keep it watered. Anyway, I hope your second tree thrives, and the 2nd collar stays put!
That sushi set is really pretty. nice score! and Princess has good taste.

Really liking that sushi set...very cute!

It was for the pair and he really didn't want to sell them separately. He was telling me that he only got them in this week. Most of our rooms have those ceiling fans that have a light under the fan so I don't actually need light fittings like these - I have one space where I *could* put one though ......
DC has a program where they will cover the cost of a tree in your yard too - if you have a yard big enough to plant a tree. We're looking forward to this one growing big enough to shade the bedroom in summer. (of course then I will be worrying about branches crashing through the window in a storm! LOL). I hope your tree bounces back... we learnt that new trees need 25 gallons of water a week to get properly established - that helps them get their roots down far enough to survive just on rain water.

These were awesome pictures, and I look forward to seeing more over the weeks ahead. You are one great photographer. I have met a few on here who should be professional, if they aren't already. And you are right up near the top on that list. Thanks so much for sharing.

LOL - my mother is the sweetest lady - I'm sure she'd love an addition to the family... sometimes I make do with M&M's here but really they don't compare to Smarties.

Thank you Shea that is very sweet of you to say. I have a Canon point & shoot camera that never leaves my handbag. I've really enjoyed doing this photo a day project - I started on 2nd January - though I'd intended to start on the 1st I actually forgot to take my very first photo LOL.

I love your pictures, it is strange seeing another country in this way, but good as well :)

All those wires remind me of the old-fashioned photos they showed in my telephony training. Are they electric cables or phone, or maybe even both?
I'm sure they know you are trustworthy with trees and plants. : - )

What an adorable umbrella!!! (And sounds like we're going to need it this week!)
Congrats on your new tree, its nice. How scary about the AIDS increase, at least here it's no longer a fatal disease, from what I understand.

They don't sell Smarties here .. :-( Or caramello bears!!
Posted by: Emjay | 08/30/2010 at 05:31 PM
I'm not sure about the wires... I know that a lot of DC has above ground wiring - recently there has been a lot of discussion about getting the wires underground - Pepco is resisting.... That said - I've only ever seen telephone/cable companies out in the alley in their cherry pickers no Pepco trucks.
I am hopeful that this tree is going to grow big and strong - and shady!
Posted by: Emjay | 08/30/2010 at 05:46 PM
Oh - I really hope the hurricane changes direction - I don't mind high tides as the surfers love them but I don't want the heavy rain!! It's back in the 90's here this week so I could use the umbrella to keep the sun off me! LOL.
Yes - the figures released on HIV/AIDS showed that fewer people in DC are now dying from it.

Oh how DARE they??

I like very much your architectural photographs, especially those with wood houses in the background and electric wires in the air... Where do you live ? In Washington, DC ? It looks like a little San Francisco
